The I Do Project

The I Do! Project raises awareness about Forced Marriage in Canada. We train service providers to recognize and intervene safely and effectively in cases of forced marriage, both in Canada and abroad. We empower survivors and those who have been at risk of forced marriage through our Survivors’ Group, the Survivors’ Network, and through programming created specifically for them. Some of our projects include: The Survivors' Initiative - This initiative trained survivors and those at risk of forced marriage to co-facilitate workshops for service providers on the subject of forced marriage. Once trained, they were employed to co-facilitate workshops in the community along with the Project Coordinator. This project furnished survivors with transferable skills which could be used in their schooling or employment, and provided them with the opportunity to have a direct impact on service providers' understanding of the issues involved in forced marriage and related abuse. The Community Outreach Training Program - In this program survivors and those at risk of forced marriage were trained in community outreach techniques that they could use individually (outreach to neighbours, classmates, co-workers, and members of their religious communities) or in collaboration with members of the Survivors' Group or other organizations (outreach at community, cultural or religious events, or presentations to schools or social service agencies).
