Introducing a “New Kind of Pride” (details at For 28 years…since 1991…wearing a RED Shirt to Magic Kingdom on the first Saturday of June has been an iconic kick-off to Pride month. We are announcing “3 Big Ideas” to continue and grow the RED Shirt tradition! Big Idea #1: RED Shirt Pride Day Around the World. Imagine.St. Patrick’s Day where everyone wears green on March 17th whether they are Irish or not. Then imagine that on the first Saturday of June that kindred spirits around the world wear RED in solidarity for diversity, equality, inclusion, safe expression, and kindness – RED Shirt Pride Day Around the World!(#rspd) At one time it grew to over people…but the original mission worked…as you can now be gay every day at Disney. However….that is not true everywhere as we brutally know. RED Shirt Pride Day Around the World…how cool would that be? We are inspired by the original 30 or 40 people with “kindred spirits” that bravely met at Magic Kingdom back in 1991. They were brave enough to come out back in 1991…risking loss of their job, loss of career opportunities due to the “pink” ceiling, loss of family, and even loss of safety. Their courageousness that started out simply as a social gathering has grown to become one of the longest running, iconic events in LGBT+ history. To honor them, to educate those of this valuable part of LGBT history, and to continue the kindred spirit mission – not just at Walt Disney World® Resort and not just in Orlando – but around the world, we started the KindRED Pride Foundation. Big Idea #2: The Pride Cup at ESPN Wide World of Sports. A multi-sport LGBT competition held annually to celebrate all skill levels. Big Idea #3: We Are One Extravaganza for Diversity & Inclusion. The KindRED Pride Foundation’s mission is to support endeavors by like-minded charities for the education, promotion, and celebration of diversity, inclusion, equality, safe expression, and kindness.
