The Rushed Behind

The Rushed Behind is an independently run AFL news company which was founded in 2017 by Nick D'Urbano, Athos Sirianos, Chris Nice and Brooke Varney. All aspiring sports journalists at RMIT University, the four have endeavoured to make their mark on the industry, with their projects all aiming to be informative, professional and entertaining. Originally established as a small podcast between friends to gain some experience, the project soon amassed a small following through the show’s blend of humour analysis and camaraderie, with the team producing 10 episodes alongside a live video in its first six months. At the beginning of 2018, The Rushed Behind took another step in its evolution, recruiting a handful of fellow student writers and establishing a fully functioning website, complete with match reports from every AFLW and AFL game, opinion pieces, weekly podcasts to showcase their journalistic abilities. With more exposure came a larger audience, and with their fan base steadily growing, much grander schemes came to the fore. The team's promotional video - produced in April 2018 - gathered over views on Facebook, with The Rushed Behind evolving into more than just a name. But no one would expect the small podcast run out of RMIT University to become a live, weekly television show airing on Channel 31 on Monday afternoons. Beginning from August 20 2018, The Rushed Behind was picked up and redeveloped for live television, with the team once again expanding its member base to create a proficient production team, led by director Will Watson. The year culminated with a live, one-hour Grand Final special which was filmed in front of a studio audience at RMIT University. In 2019, the show grew once again, with The Rushed Behind airing one-hour episodes every Thursday night at 6:30pm on Channel 31; all of which wouldn't be possible without RMIT's Luke Raisebeck and the dedicated crew who invest so many hours to get the show up and running every week.
