The Sonrise Project

The SonRise Project is dedicated to helping sons and daughters lead mentally healthy lives while providing a safe space to share and support families dealing with mental illness and addiction issues nationwide. We believe that to achieve optimal health, we must commit to creating a safe place for parents, guardians, and teachers to share, listen, and learn from experts and each other. The SonRise Project intends to create a space filled with love, compassion, and a mutual desire to heal our families, our children, and ourselves. When you decide to start a family, your hopes and dreams for your child’s future are full of joy with a natural undercurrent of fear. As Black parents, many of us don’t talk about the issues we may face with our sons and daughters – from mental illness, depression, anxiety, and addiction. As your children grow older and face more complex issues, you may find yourself needing to transition into a role of greater support, and that can be quite challenging. This is especially true when it comes to teenagers and adult children who are struggling with depression. Regardless of their age, watching your child suffer can be emotionally and physically exhausting for a parent. Our Mission: To promote the optimal mental health of sons and daughters through advocacy, education, and support. Our Vision: A society where mental wellness is the foundation of a healthy community of families, with the rates of depression, anxiety, and addiction decreasing. Our Action: Host weekly calls where parents can learn and share.
