The Student Development Co. CIC (The SDC) is a non-profit organisation which aims to provide help and advice to 16-24 year olds. The SDC focuses on reducing youth unemployment by providing support to help with career development after education. The SDC’s founder, Claudine Adeyemi, is hugely passionate about the development of young people. Through her previous work supporting young people, Claudine discovered that there were many, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, who were struggling to develop successful professional careers; this drove Claudine to set up The SDC in January 2014. The SDC’s main initiative, Primary Colours Academy, is a series of employability skills workshops which also offer students the opportunity to hear from recruiters and network with industry professionals. The aim of Primary Colours Academy is to improve the employability skills of young people and ensure their success in the workplace. With The SDC’s active social media campaigns, young people have access to tips, advice and links to useful articles and also benefit from the regular blog posts written by members of the team; these offer first-hand accounts of young people’s positive experiences of leaving education and entering the workplace. The organisation also produces a monthly e-newsletter with an abundance of careers related advice and information on current opportunities available to young people. The SDC is truly passionate about helping students to build successful careers. As an organisation run by young people for young people, we are able to understand and relate to the issues students face when trying to enter the professional world of work and can therefore provide the most relevant and comprehensive advice and support.
