The Ultimate Re-Entry Opportunity

URO is a community initiative to eliminate systemic barriers to reentry in Tompkins County. We work with policy-makers, nonprofits, and people most impacted by incarceration to make the transition from jail/prison to our community successful. The Ultimate Re-Entry Opportunity (URO) established in 2014, is dedicated to facilitating collective community work between private and public sectors to actively transform the culture and process of reentry and reduce the risk of rearrest and reincarceration in Tompkins County. Our goals are: To provide a common table where voices and efforts across sectors in our communities are united in re-imagining a reentry system that provides safety, security and belonging for everyone in the community To develop a culture that welcomes and supports the successful reintegration of people returning to the community from jail or prison. To remove barriers to successful reentry in Tompkins County To ensure that formerly incarcerated people have access to resources, services and support they need to successfully transition back into their communities and reduce their risk of re-offense. Our plan is to use a collective impact approach to: support the creation of a coordinated and effective re-entry system in Tompkins County; facilitate identification of gaps within services and develop improvements to address these gaps; coordinate service delivery; inform future policy decisions; collect and analyze data for meaningful outcomes; and attract funding and support funding strategies for high-value activities. In doing this work, we recognize and value all members of our community, including those who are involved in the criminal justice system, survivors, and families.
