The Weardale Museum
The Weardale Museum is an entirely volunteer run organisation. It is a small folk museum focussing on the history of Weardale, including lead mining, Methodism, and heritage crafts. Home to the Weardale People database (family history research service with over entries), and the Methodist Tapestries Collection (a collection of tapestries telling the story of Methodism in Weardale and beyond). In 2019 it purchased the adjoining High House Chapel and is in the process of restoring and renovating this building and its Vincent organ with the aim of creating a Heritage Centre. This Centre will become a community focus point within the dale, forming an extension of the current Museum and hosting a variety of religious services, concerts and performances, and community groups and classes.
