The White Coat Project

A human library cataloguing the stories of the unsung heroes – The ones who don a white coat instead of an armour and cape. Ours has always been the “road less travelled” right from the start and the side of the story less talked about. We belong to the profession where the lives of others depend upon us, but how often do we talk about our lives? The issues we face, gender bias, non-conducive working conditions, gut-wrenching sights. Or the small things that made us smile today, a compliment from a patient, or seeing a newborn enter this world? ‘Social distancing’ -two words that have brought about seismic change to the daily lives of millions around the world yet we can still stay close to each other by knowing each other’s story. We are a bunch of college students trying to listen to the hearts and read the minds of ones who use stethoscopes to listen to yours, the ones who put their best with their white coats and white gloves on. We aim to create a human library of the unsung heroes- the ones who invest the best years of their lives to add to yours. This venture under IMA-MSN Punjab aims to highlight the struggles- personal or professional, that medical students or doctors face throughout their lives. It is an initiative to give the world a sneak-peek into the lives of these warriors on the front line. These are our personal stories, stories of our work, the patients we treat, the discrimination and violence we face, or just some small anecdotes that brought joy to our day. It is our attempt to make the world a better place. A place for positivity, equality, love, and healing. Fighting against violence against the medical staff and gender bias, while also spreading smiles and tales about a good day. You don’t have to be a writer to have a story worth telling.
