The Yamyam

The YamYam is a local news and blog aggregation website serving the Black Country, UK, part of a network of automated channels covering other parts of the West Midlands. The website provides easy access to a comprehensive range of regularly updated local news and blogs focused around specific geographical areas in a simple and easy to scan format. The site provides a platform for local independent voices to help them gain a wider audience through additional web traffic and so help facilitate debate around local issues and strengthen local online communities. The YamYam maintains curated lists of other people's websites which produce content of relevance to specific local geographical areas in the Black Country. The automated filtration system then harvests summarised extracts of unedited content from news reports, press releases and blogs, aggregates them by subject, adds metadata, positions the headlines in date order, credits the publisher and then provides direct hyperlinks to the complete stories on the original websites where they can be read in full.
