The Oak Pit restaurant was purchased by the Tule River Economic Development Corporation (TREDC) in September 2012. The Oak Pit has been a staple in the Porterville community since 1979. The original owners had decided to retire after providing delicious food to the community for three decades- TREDC purchased the restaurant as an economic venture and to provide jobs for the people of the Tule River Tribe and the surrounding community. Being locally owned and as a downtown business, we deeply care about our community and pride ourselves in supporting everything local. That is why we decided to keep the original name, The Oak Pit. After being in Porterville for so many years, the community did not want to see it go. Today, we are one of the only steakhouses open in the City of Porterville.
