Therapat

Therapat is a unique counselling service which uses animals as a therapeutic tool to bring about change. At the moment Therapat consists of Sandy (a trained counsellor) and Amber (a cocker spaniel dog!). The use of an animal such as Amber can help to break down communication barriers between a client and their therapist. Therapat ‘tailor-makes’ a service to suit individuals, depending on their needs or difficulties. This kind of therapy is particularly beneficial for individuals who find it difficult to trust others, this being particularly true for some children and young people who may feel intimidated by adults but would benefit from spending one to one times with someone they can trust. It is also beneficial for individuals who have experienced a traumatic event such as divorce or a bereavement.
