The Intersection of Timekeeping and Bookkeeping There were two things I was fascinated by as a kid: drums and numbers. My grandfather had played the drums, and my father played the drums. It only made sense, then, that as a young child I was drawn to our basement where I started to play on my father’s drum kit. As I began to study music, I was intrigued by the math that’s involved: the whole-steps and half-steps of a melodic scale, and the quarter, eighth, and sixteenth-notes (just to name a few) that make up rhythms. The math of it intrigued me and came naturally to my brain. Being a timekeeper on the drums has remained an integral part of who I am and what brings me joy. However, over the years, I realized that my brain’s processing and understanding of numbers doesn’t come as naturally to everyone. That’s why I’ve also been learning and working in the accounting field as a bookkeeper and Controller for various non-profit organizations and small businesses. In 2022, after spending more than sixteen years working for other organizations (3+ as a Bookkeeper for a small business accounting firm, and 13+ as Controller for a Maryland-based non-profit organization), David Lerner struck out on his own with Timekeeper Financial Solutions.
