We are an architectural and research studio that is excited by the possibilities of existing places. Our mission is to contribute positively and passionately to the regeneration of place. We aim to achieve this by elevating quality of experience, improving performance and resource conservation, and by using a purposeful and interconnected approach. Formerly known as Mark Thompson Brandt Architect (MTBA) & Associates Inc, TRACE architectures has over 35 years of experience in architecture, urbanism and conservation. Building on this experience, we have evolved our identity to reflect our collective approach to architecture(s) and research. Speaking to our origins as a heritage conservation focused studio, we bring this attentive mindset to our broader portfolio. This approach provides opportunities for varied solutions that speak specifically to context in order to meet project-specific goals. We look at the value of places regardless of whether outwardly recognized, tangible or intangible. By taking such an approach, our team with their varied and decades of experience, understands that a place, be it its past, present and future, is not a stagnant and requires a unique sensitivity to achieve balanced solutions. Our studio has a combined multidisciplinary expertise which we apply to the diverse projects that we undertake. We excel at projects and initiatives that require greater sensitivity. This extends to our architectural, research and blended projects. While we have experience in a wide range of projects within our team, we have experience concentrations in; Existing Places, Sustainability, Research and Policy. These concentrations inform our approach to different kinds of engagements. Our studio is well-versed in working within a variety of project approach structures, from large teams to focused assignments.
