Transit College

Purpose for establishing the College At the time Sierra Leone gained independence, the country had one of the best educational system in Africa. But after independence, the long period of wars got its effect of the system. Interacting with some employers and other stakeholders, it is evident that the educational programs are not delivering as expected. The employers cited lack of skills in the new graduates. It is for this reason that Transit University was established to fill the gap. The objective of establishing Transit College is to educate students in technical skills, engineering, science and technology, management and theology in preparation for careers of professional practices, civic impact and leadership anchored by fairness, merit and commitment to active life-long learning. Transit College strives to: a. Give the students the required skills and expertise to meet the challenge of todays’ diverse and ever changing job market. b. Give sound academic achievement with innovative and problem-solving skills c. Empower students with analytical and conceptual skills d. Produce highly motivated, flexible and adaptable workforce with ‘can do’ attitude Centre of excellence Transit College is repositioning itself to be a centre of excellence of producing lower-level ready-to-work workforce. For this, Transit College has established an Entrepreneurship Incubation Centre in the School of Business and Management and Innovation Incubation Centre in the School of Engineering. Vision To become a beacon of leadership in research, innovation, sports and entrepreneurship, a transformation resource for Sierra Leone, Africa and the World. Mission The College seeks to inspire students to create, discover and to transmit cutting-edge knowledge of academic inquiry for the sustainable development of societies.
