To solve this, we leverage data science and machine learning technologies to create “Essences,” which display the most frequently used and most unique phrases about a place based on user generated content from around the web. We believe personalization is a scale that starts with suggestions and improves with active learning, which is why we use Essences as our signal for discovery - instead of determining results based on what your friends like (which can be flawed), we determine results based on what kinds of places YOU like. As you interact with our mobile and web products, TravelShark learns what you like and delivers increasingly personal recommendations - whether you’re in your home city or traveling abroad.
