At Treasured Times we have developed the Digital Life Book, a cloud based application that harnesses different technologies to help reduce feelings of isolation and anxiety, while improving outcomes for those living with memory loss or dementia and enriching individual care by communicating instant, accurate and up-to-date knowledge of an individual's personal history, wishes and preferences to caregivers and families. The Digital Life Book has also been specifically designed to support organisations in meeting the CQC's '5 Key Lines of Enquiry' by providing the metrics needed to demonstrate a person-centred, consistent approach to care. Since the outbreak of Covid-19, staffing shortages and an increasing reliance on agency care staff, there has not been a more urgent need for a technology which ‘bridges the gap’ between the carer and the individual so that support is person-centred right from the start. The Digital Life Book targets this need, serving as both a health and social resource, and including-highly personalised information about life experiences and care preferences individualised multimedia content (music, film and photographs)-'pop up' reminders and a messaging service to support memory function and interaction The content works both as a biography and a reminiscing resource, allowing individuals to share their wishes, needs and experiences with family, friends and caregivers. This, in turn, alleviates the negative effects of memory loss by acting as a vital reference point and permanent memory bank. Most significantly, the Digital Life Book is helping to re-connect families across the generations, as young children and teenagers enjoy shared digital experiences with their grandparents, busy parents have a digital tool which creates structure and facilitates easy communication between themselves and other stakeholders in their loved ones' care and ensures that even while social distancing, they can maintain loving and personal relationships.
