Twice Shot

On 1 May Daryl Elliot Green was a constable on a routine callout when he was ambushed and shot in his face and shoulder. Suffering critical injuries and significant blood loss, he drew his firearm and began searching for the gunman. For his actions that night, Daryl was awarded the Queensland Police Service Valour Award – their highest accolade for bravery. Despite two facial reconstructions over several years, Daryl showed incredible strength of character, determination and resilience. He returned to police work and went on to achieve major professional and personal goals. Daryl now draws on his experience to inspire and empower people. With an intuitive gift for public speaking, and underpinned by multimedia, including audio of the shooting, 3D computer modelling, 2D schematics of the incident, crime scene photos, surgical models and the offender’s profile, Daryl brings his lessons—tailored for each audience’s particular needs—to life with energy, humour and optimism.
