A company's success hinges upon its ability to empower a diverse workforce to fully contribute. While the long term answer must be an environment that is welcoming to all employees, the reality is that change is difficult and unspoken social rules differ from one environment to another. If we want a more diverse workforce with positive and productive work experiences, we must prepare individuals with the skills and knowledge for what they will face. We must equip them with ways to handle situations and concepts such as confrontation, hierarchy and power dynamics, setting personal boundaries, interpersonal conflict, challenges to authority and even unprofessional behavior.
