Ufo Urbanism

Every new urban development should be an indication of a future, a glimpse of what a new world could look like. The choices we make in creating these environments are shaped by our desire to influence change. By questioning the commonplace, for all audiences and communities, regardless of origin and status, the obsolete mundane can be transformed into a sustainable design of public and private space. The name UFO Urbanism signifies our aspiration for change. In our practice, we research Urban Futures by questioning the Ordinary. In doing so, we give direction to an inclusive agenda by drawing together different people for a joint purpose. Our desire to deviate from the ordinary is neither a social contract nor a marketing strategy, but an instrument for realizing a shared objective. We believe that physical structures and social systems are linked to the evolving financial and organizational models that create them. At a time when several major challenges are waiting for space and momentum, an attitude that questions why we work the way we work is justified, if not necessary. Because solving problems with the kind of thinking that caused those problems in the first place, is no way forward. In our work we use the power of imagination to design and map innovative solutions for spatial issues and systemic improvement. With a creative mindset we inspire partners to give shape and meaning to the challenges ahead. By together questioning the normative, we can find new forms of solidarity that can remove resistance, paving the way for a joint perspective of what the future might look like.
