Didirikan tahun 2002 oleh sekelompok mahasiswa seusai Kerja Praktik di PT. Kakanoo Maritim Nusantara dan selanjutnya dibimbing oleh Prof. Ir. Daniel Mohammad Rosyid, M.Phil, Ph.D, MRINA. UKM Maritime Challenge telah mengikuti lomba internasional yaitu Atlantic Challenge International. Hingga kini, UKM Maritime Challenge telah membangun 4 buah kapal berjenis Yole de Bantrey
