The United Nations African Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (UNAFRI) is an inter-governmental organization which aims at promoting an active cooperation of governments, academic institutions, non-governmental organizations, and experts in the area of crime prevention and criminal justice. In its mandates UNAFRI promotes and strengthen crime prevention and control capacity to states across African region. As part of its work programmes, UNAFRI centers on research for policy development, technical training, crime data collection and information sharing, together with rendering legal advisory services to governments on crime prevention mechanisms and effective criminal justice systems. Being one of the partner institutions under the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme Network, UNAFRI takes part in the United Nations coordinated efforts to support the implementation of the international and regional legal instruments against various forms of crimes such as corruption, cybercrime, transnational organized crimes as well as human and drugs trafficking by organizing intergovernmental regional meetings for experts from member state agencies and civil society.
