From the amazing world of quantum physics comes Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov, who have shown the world the almost unbelievable properties of carbon, the fourth most abundant element in the universe by mass and the second most abundant element by mass in the human body. Graphene is a type of carbon. A completely new material that is not only the thinnest, it is also the strongest. As a conductor of electricity it performs like copper. As a heat conductor it outperforms all known materials. It is almost utterly clear, nonetheless so dense that helium, the smallest gas atom, cannot pass through it. Once again, Carbon, has taken us by surprise. When mixed into plastics, graphene can transform them into conductors of electricity while making them heat resistant and mechanically more resilient. This resilience can be utilized in new super sturdy, thinner, elastic and lightweight materials. The smallest to the largest products could be manufactured out of these materials in the future.
