United Farmers Limited is a digital crowd farming company that uses business models relating to technologies for agricultural innovation. The business model brings local farmers and people with financial resources (investors) together whereby they go into arrangements for mutual benefits. Agriculture has relied on technology, in some form or other for hundreds of years, however, digital technology is fast becoming increasingly essential in facilitating productivity through various innovations. United farmers crowd farming business initiative represents a new way of getting investment and expertise into small-scale farming. The company believes that this creative approach has the potential to solve the employment, food security and other economic and social problems in Cameroon and Africa as a whole. United Farmers Limited built a community business model using their website and mobile app. The platform is designed to bridge the gap between small-scale farmers and available investors. The company’s intention is to connect middle to upper-class investors with over small-scale farmers in Cameroon. It is a network of collaboration among farmers, investors/sponsors, off-takers and insurers. By providing a database of pre-qualified small-scale farmers who need financial support, the model allows Cameroonians with interest to invest in agriculture by the touch of a button. Potential investors can download the United farmer’s mobile app in order to study push notifications once a farm is open for sponsorship. For a start, crops involved in farming investments are fluted pumpkins(okongobong), pineapples, pepper, kidney beans, maize, soya beans and many others At harvest, United Farmers Limited takes the product, sells it to off-takers and share the profit amongst farmers, sponsors and itself.
