Urban Eye

Urban Eye is a West London charity founded by Miles Watson which uses art and design to help renew neglected inner-city spaces. Projects are carried out with local residents, community groups, schools and youth projects and with councils and transport organisations. Mosaic and mural art projects are created on estates and in typically neglected urban areas. Larger format art & design projects have involved tube and rail bridges and the soffit of urban flyovers to help enliven public spaces, increase local ownership and raise the profile of an area. The charity’s work has won eight environmental awards and has proved popular with local residents, businesses and the wider public. Benefits include increased footfall in previously run-down areas, reduced vandalism and improved public safety through innovative use of lighting. The charity is experienced at developing projects from first principles, forming strategic alliances, gaining necessary permissions, creating designs for public consultation and delivering projects on time and to budget. The approach is bold, innovative, entrepreneurial and partnership orientated. Urban Eye has also worked as a consultant in art and design masterplanning and has produced feasibility studies and costed design reports for development trusts and local councils. Partner groups include Highways Agency, London Underground, Network Rail, TfL, Westminster Council, Kensington & Chelsea Council, Westway Trust, Carnegie Trust UK, Peabody Housing, Land Securities, Chelsea Theatre and many schools, youth clubs and resident associations. CSR activities have been organised with the BBC, Harrods, Innocent Drinks and BDO Finance.
