Urban Verbunk

Urban Verbunk was founded in 2019 by the Hungarian-Egyptian dancer and choreographer Ahmed Moussa, who achieved the title of "world's fastest dancer" with a world record in 2014. The company was created with the aim of creating a completely new dance style based on the mixing of cultures, thereby making it unique in the world. Further goal was to present this unmistakable dance style in a way that is easy to connect to for anyone, regardless of ethnicity, gender, age or of social position, both in Hungary and on international level. The foundations of the art of Urban Verbunk are: tradition, innovation, extreme physical and mental preparation. The group strives to find similarities between Hungarian and other cultures and to incorporate them into their dance style and productions. The productions of Urban Verbunk combine ancient dance elements with the characteristics of modern art in a way that makes them the most exquisite performance art in any environment. Since 2019, they have performed at a wide range of high-profile events, such as UEFA Euro 2020, the 2022 Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix, the 2023 World Athletics Championships or the 2023 Budapest Demographic Summit. They further created video productions with performers such as HAUSER and Elina Nechayeva, at various locations from Rome to Paris to Uzbekistan, the dried-up Aral Sea. The ultimate goal of Urban Verbunk is to bring their unique dance style everywhere in the world and make it popular, as well as to show the endless possibilities lying in the fusion of cultures.
