It͛s rationale is informed by peer reviewed research that demonstrates conclusively that people living with dementia who remain socially included have a better quality of life. Significantly, statistics show that people living with dementia who feel isolated experience greater levels of agitation, depression and aggression. This results in the over prescription of antipsychotic drugs as a first line of management. In Australia alone, elderly Australians die every year as a result. Uukoo is a respectfully designed solution supporting people living with cognitive and memory problems to live at home longer or in aged care facilities who are supported by carers. Uukoo is a tool for paid carers and unpaid carers to facilitate connection to families and communities when the person with Dementia can no longer live in their own home or use technology. Uukoo is designed to be a functional piece of technology that offers comfort, security and entertainment to a person living with dementia and their caregiving group.
