Uyo Responsible Cafe Directory

We are New Zealand's online responsible café guide. UYO stands for Use Your Own and it is pronounced [you-yo] or any way you want to say it! We represent cafes who are committed to minimizing their environmental impact by welcoming us to use our own cups, cutlery, containers (the works!) when we take out. Every cafe listed on UYO will pour a brew into any vessel we bring them. Many of our cafes have gone further still and have stopped serving plastic straws, will refill water flasks for no charge or compost food waste. You can see who is doing what at We also work as a philanthropic, social enterprise, stepping in to connect folks who can help each other do good, and stepping up to fund local projects and initiatives. We have no ego - we just want to see the world we leave to the next humans be one they can thrive in, respecting their entitlement to secure natural capital and the rights of all living things to clean air, water and land. All profits from the UYO guide are distributed to social and environmental NGOs and charities who work to alleviate suffering and defend the natural world.
