Valdemars Castle was built by King Christian 4 for his son Prince Valdemar. It was gifted by the King Christian 5 to the nobel family Juel in 1678. It has been in the family ever since, and today Louise Iuel Albinus owns and runs the estate. It is considered the largest privately owned home in Denmark, and the only royal palace in private hands in Denmark. Today the castle and the surrounding buildings are being restored with the aim to open up to the public again in 2025, and function as a world class art destination
