From traditional cheese trading to international wholesale For many generations, the Van der Heiden family produced cheese in an artisanal manner. The cheesemaker from Stolwijk became renowned for the exceptional quality of his cheese, the Stolkse Boeren. Surrounded by peat meadow landscapes, Stolwijk is widely recognized as an ideal location for producing farmhouse cheese. In 1973, Gijs van der Heiden began purchasing cheeses from various farmers in the Stolwijk region, which he then matured further to enhance their flavour. Today, Van der Heiden Kaas has evolved from a traditional cheese trading business into an international wholesaler, supplying multiple brands and exporting worldwide. In Bodegraven, thousands of cheeses are matured with great care and expertise in the large, modern, climate-controlled warehouse on Beneluxweg. The facility holds an average inventory of 1,200 to 1,300 tons of cheese.
