Our vision to be the Hippocampus (the latin name for seahorse, also the part of the human brain that retrieves, organizes and categorizes information) for a company’s knowledge workers - retrieving, organizing and categorizing all text resources using Artificial Intelligence - ACRE (Analytics Categorization Retrieval Engine). When Chris Wolff met Dr. Greg Brewster at DePaul University’s Computer Science Department, he brought with him a book, written by Dr. Peter F. Jackson, titled “Natural Language Processing for Online Systems.” The work pioneered by Dr. Jackson combined with Chris’s vision led to the successful creation of CaRE (Categorization and Retrieval Engine) for ALR (American Law Reports). CaRE resulted in a 90% reduction in cost for ALR and is now found in dozens of products across all the verticals at Thomson Reuters, including WestLaw’s revolutionary KeyCite. CaRE proved the incredible power of NLP (Natural Language Processing) when combined with Categorization and Search. Years later, Vertical Data was founded. A Web-based version of CaRE was desired by the rest of world to effectively deal with the daunting Massive Data issues continually faced… from this obstacle, ACRE was born. ACRE intuitively combines various General Purpose Technologies, the Internet, NLP, and Machine Learning. Therefore, creating a disruptive capability that will transform productivity in the world of Massive Data.
