PCR based diagnostic tests are limited to being carried out in the lab. Samples need to be taken from a source, carefully packaged and shipped to an analytical laboratory, where experts take and analyse the samples using conventional benchtop equipment. This process takes time, requires the use of trained staff and can be costly. We are developing the first and only portable diagnostics PCR device, whereby any user regardless of expertise can use it and get a rapid and reliable PCR result in the field, without the need for conventional laboratory equipment.
