Our story In the past May, the killing of George Floyd rocked America amidst a pandemic as protests erupted, calling for justice against police brutality and structural racism. A group of socially aware students studying in nations across the world, we joined together and founded Viets for Black Lives Matter. Through articles and post designs, our mission was to shed light on the racial injustices taking place in America, celebrate African American culture, and support the BLM movement by sharing knowledge to our Vietnamese community. Our mission Since, our purpose has changed. Addressing BLM and its intersectionalities remain an integral part of our core function, but our team understands that it is crucial and optimal to encompass a wider range of issues. We have rebranded into Viets for Change. However, our mission remains. Through our work, we hope to educate and be a voice in the Vietnamese community. We hope to spark conversations, inspire activism, and push for social change. We hope to be a force. At the same time, we undertake to comply with Article 258 of the Penal Code and will not infringe upon the interests of the Vietnamese Government, the legitimate rights and interests of organizations and citizens. Our vision While we have been active solely on Instagram, we are now expanding to Facebook with the hopes of reaching a wider Vietnamese audience. Knowing that Facebook is the most popular social media platform for both youth and adults in Vietnam, we hope that by taking our advocacy here and beyond, we would be able to push forward a change however big or small within our Vietnamese community. Though our Facebook addition is only the first step to achieving our vision, we believe that it would be able to help us further advocate for fundamental human rights and values ranging from mental health to global politics. We are excited to begin this phase and we hope that you will support us during this journey!
