What I Believe: I believe that a collaborative environment is always better than one that embraces a unilateral decision making framework. I believe that people are smart and want to do the right thing. I believe that companies inadvertently create, and then wrestle with, norms and existing culture that influence people to take action alternate to who they truly are and what they truly think. I believe that everyone has an opinion of value, and that the opinion is necessary for optimizing outcomes. I believe that when a process agenda is intently integrated, outcomes become sustainable, trustworthy, embraced and celebrated. I believe that there are multiple great and poor solutions to every situation, and that you can implement designed tools that will help you choose the great. I believe that the process implemented, if trusted, embraced, and well designed, will achieve results. I enable my clients to define, challenge and overcome the natural complexities and chaos that impacts confidence, mutual understanding and inclusivity. Facilitation Defined: Facilitation is the practice of implementing strategic processes in order to increase the potential of another party to reach optimal decision-making outcomes without taking invested ownership of the decisions created. Quality facilitation allows others to take responsibility and autonomy for their choices and experiences. Rather than having a seat at the table, the facilitator serves more as a guide. This means they watch, interpret, coach and provide process agenda to allow participants to overcome their own barriers, real or perceived. Facilitators may choose the process, but not the content. They may provide perspective, but not solutions. They are a guide. Said another way, a meeting, resource analysis, strategic planning session or focus group without a facilitator is like… • A ship with a full crew at sea with no navigation system. You might get there, but only with an element of luck, and certainly not with any sense of confidence along the way… • A group of hikers exploring a cave without the tour guide. You remembered the flashlights, water and hiking shoes, but, somehow, still feel lost and a little scared… • A sporting event without a referee or official. You have studied and appreciate the sport and you understand the rules of the game, but there does not seem to be any flow or balance amongst the players, spectators and coaches…
