Quality. Efficiency. Knowledge. Voigt Smith Innovation was born from our commercial snow and landscape divisions at Smith Lawn and Landscape (SLL). This humbly started with Jordan Smith as a one man crew, adding David Voigt as one of the first full time employees at SLL and has grown exponentially year over year since that time 10 years ago. In an effort to bring in new and better customers without “buying” accounts, we had to differentiate ourselves. One of the biggest differentiators we could offer was liquid de-icing and pre-treatment services. Another was hydroseeding and erosion control. With David’s background in engineering and his farm boy “build anything’ mentality we began building our own de-icing equipment. We spent several years perfecting our sprayer designs, and making connections in the liquid realm before it was most contractors had even heard of liquid de-icing. In 2013 a light bulb turned on. Between a salt shortage, government regulation, environmental issues and increasing concerns about customer safety and lawsuits, how could liquid not be the future? We had developed extensive knowledge and field testing of not only our spray equipment, but also of liquid de-icing and anti-icing practices, products, add rates, additive usage and we wanted to share that knowledge and our equipment with the industry. VSI Was born.
