Volta Structural Energy is building the structural energy platf for the next generation of spacecraft, drones, and electrified vehicles. Today, batteries are bulky, heavy boxes that steal up to 30% of internal volume and a big share of total mass in high-value platforms like satellites, UAVs and e-mobility systems. That unused “dead weight” limits payload, range, power availability and ultimately profitability. Teams are forced into painful trade-offs between what a mission could do and what the energy system allows. Volta turns those constraints into design freedom with structural batteries: composite sandwich panels that are both primary structure and high-performance energy storage. Powered by our patented load-bearing electrode technology and sodium-ion–first architecture (with multi-chemistry support), Volta panels drop into existing structures and production lines, freeing 100% of the volume normally dedicated to battery packs, cutting battery mass by up to 40%, and unlocking 3–5x more available power at system level. The result: more payload, longer autonomy, lower launch and fuel costs – without redesigning the entire platform. Our focus is on high-value, mission-critical markets where every kilogram matters: small and large satellites, dual-use UAVs and drones, defense platforms, and early beachheads in maritime and heavy-duty transport. Across these segments, structural batteries represent a multi-billion-euro opportunity as operators look for lighter, safer, and smarter ways to electrify energy-hungry systems.
