Waiting Space

Waiting Space’ is an audio & visual project - and alias of musician, artist, and digital media designer, Chris Falconer - based in Waterford Ireland. In both his musical and visual output, Chris’ work includes themes of ‘genius loci’ (‘spirit of place’); intertextuality / intermediality; media-manipulation; and the creative possibilities of now domestically-available advanced technologies. These themes are informed by his qualifications in Art & Architectural History (MA & BA), Graphic Design (Prof Dip), Digital Media, and Data Analytics (both PGDipSci). In most instances, his works begins as musical compositions (varying from cinematic neoclassical, to textural electronic, pieces) which are then ‘complemented’ by visuals which he creates in response (digital visualisations, animations, travel footage, and short films). Pieces from the project have been commissioned by RTÉ, the Irish public service broadcaster (a song commission about Waterford); the Luan Gallery, Athlone, Ireland; & Garter Lane Arts Centre, Waterford, Ireland (to create an audio/visual piece as part of their 'Courtyard Calibrations' programme)- while the Waiting Space piece 'Cocoon' was exhibited at Lismore Castle Arts, Lismore, Waterford, Ireland in 2020 - and was 'Officially Selected' for the 16th Waterford Film Festival, in 2022, and screened in the Odeon cinema, Waterford. Waiting Space has received both national, and international radioplay - including, but not limited to, the stations: RTÉ Lyric FM, RTÉ Radio 1, RTÉ 2FM, BBC Radio Ulster, Beat FM, WLR FM, KCLR FM, Red FM - and has also been invited to longform interviews on a number of radio shows, including for The Stephen McCauley Show on BBC Radio Ulster,'The County Measure' documentary series on RTÉ Radio 1 with Vincent Woods, and ‘On The Fringe’ with Geoff Harris, and the 'DéiseToday' show with Damien Tiernan - both on WLR FM.
