Walao-Eh Project

Wa () Lao () Eh” is an expression used in Singapore and Malaysia to indicate anger, frustration and impatience. Today, it’s used quite casually, in the same way you would use OMG (indeed, you can think of it as OMG, if it’s easier for you to remember, but we believe Walao-eh is much catchier – blame it on the amount of times we heard it and used it). We had the idea to create something that would have a positive impact on the people around us after the umpteenth act of violence that sparked massive protests around the globe, the killing of George Floyd. We saw the pent-up anger and frustration of millions of people against injustices explode through marches for change in Tokyo, London, New York. We felt it in our own bones, and we wondered if there was anything we could do in practice to help and participate in the change. That’s how the Walao-eh project was born. A simple and ambitious goal to turn that pent-up anger and frustration into a push for action. There are tons of injustices occurring in the world at any given time, and we know well that the ones that make it on the news are the of them. Unfortunately, only the most sensationalistic of them win the race to “fame”. That’s why we want to provide a fresh perspective on the general, total tallies and give you a sense of the bigger picture. With numbers, facts, statistics all analyzed for you and explained in quick, 5-min briefs.
