A staggering 25% of textiles are wasted as leftovers from production each year (Fashion Revolution, 2020). That's millions of tons of waste. Every. Year. Just from unused material that never even makes it into garments.⁠ ⁠ Waste Knot's founder, Taylor, had a goal to address this problem, by challenging what it means to produce waste. We only use fabric scraps from other designers, turning what would be waste into something new and beautiful - giving it new life. Nature inherently doesn't have waste streams like we do in our society. Every "waste" product is a valuable resource to another system. It's how fallen leaves rot and become soil, to grow new trees.⁠ ⁠ So what if we thought about our own systems this way? Using all of our waste, to the best of our ability. Having a truly circular system, just like nature. Waste Knot scrunchies won't solve the world's global textile waste crisis - but we're doing our part to show one way we can challenge the linear system of take → make → waste. For the health of our ecosystems and our communities.⁠ ⁠ It's not waste til it's wasted.
