Wastemonie is a digital product of the Social Enterprise of Utopia Crest born out of a need to create a sustainable solution to the plight of the environment within the Sub-Sahara Region. The solution leverages blockchain technology to offer a secure and transparent way to monetize all fractions of waste such as; plastic, paper, glass, steel e.t.c with a double mission of protecting the environment and banking the unbanked in some of the world’s poorest regions with a pilot startup in Rivers State, Nigeria. The social enterprise, established in 2018 incentivizes people to collect and return waste fractions in exchange for wastemonie coins that can be used in the purchase of life essentials such as cooking fuel, medical insurance, electricity, mobile phone and Internet subscriptions or school tuition and so much more.
