The Writing Was On the Label WasteNEGATIVE is new to the battle against food-waste disease. We bring with us a perspective informed by the experience of operating a small, live-food, vegan restaurant for 3 years. Although that's not long by industry standards It was more than enough time to realize how much food we were throwing away and the impact it was having on our bottom line. In response, we did what most restaurants do. We tried to determine what our pars were. We reorganized our coolers daily and got really creative in terms of repurposing. Unfortunately, despite all of our efforts, the reduction in food waste was minimal. Needless to say, for a concept with an exclusively plant-based menu of items fashioned entirely from fresh, organic, perishable produce, the problem was a pressing one. The solution, as is usually the case, came not from a conscious attempt at problem solving or a brainstorming session, but, almost fully formed, from the realization that my handwriting was so bad that, oftentimes, I could not read the information on a label written a mere 24 hours earlier. That was in February of 2016. The writing was on the "label." WasteNEGATIVE was founded one year later in February 2017. At WasteNEGATIVE, we think of food waste as a disease. Left untreated, it wreaks havoc on the biosphere and your bottom line. On the other hand, like any other disease, early detection can significantly improve the chances for successful treatment and/or cure. Our suite of products, when used properly, are designed to help our clients, especially at the food service and consumer level, ferret out potential food waste in its incipient stages, affording them the opportunity to donate rather than discard, or to re-purpose rather than simply relegating perfectly good food to the refuse bin. Food-waste disease and its attendant consequences, economic, social and environmental alike, are both extant and imminently solvable. Our mission is to leverage hardware, software, and wetware effectively, efficiently, and appropriately, to affect a cure to what is an acquired condition.
