Sri Lanka is home to an estimated three million street dogs. Many have food, freedom, and a safe place to sleep, but most lack even the most basic veterinary care. In 2014, UK vet Dr Janey Lowes witnessed this firsthand while backpacking and knew she couldn’t turn away. She relocated to the island and founded WECare Worldwide to provide high-standard care to animals who would otherwise go without. Since then, WECare has grown from a one-woman initiative into a dedicated team of over 70 people. We're a mixed bunch, from all corners of the globe, but there's one thing we have in common; we're absolutely bonkers about dogs! Together we are a highly skilled team, working our little flip flops off to ensure that the WECare dream one day becomes a reality: a world where every dog is treated with compassion, care, and the veterinary attention they deserve. Our work focuses on three key areas: neutering and vaccinations to prevent suffering, treatment of illness and injury – from skin conditions to serious trauma – and community education to empower people to care for roaming dogs. We are always on the lookout for incredible people to come and join the charge here at WECare.
