Weingut Katrin Wind

The winery weingut wind's history is still very young. 2011 katrin took over responsibility for the cellar. before erika and klaus wind, katrin's parents, cultivated approx. 2.5 hectares in part-time and sold most of the wines on the barrel to larger wineries. from the beginning for katrin is was absolutely clear that she wants to go her own ways. in parallel to her study of viticulture and oenology at hochschule geisenheim, at age of 19 yrs she released her first own wine – a dry riesling. within a few years, she transformed her father klaus' hobby wine estate into a winery with very high standards of quality an authenticity. although the cultivated size of vineyards almost doubled since 2011, the whole vintage still fits into the parents double garage which is the winery's stock. wine tastings are held in the dining room of the parental home. a real garage winery though. the vineyards mostly are yet being cultivated on organic standards, 2020 the wine estate will completely act organic standards certified. katrin focuses on riesling, pinot blanc, pinot madeleine (a mutation of pinot noir) and pinot noir. all grapes are hand picked, and all wines are fermented spontaneously (without cultured yeasts) – no compromises. segmented in three quality levels (gutswein, ortswein, lagenwein) they age in stainless steel or oak barrels and are always dry. the majority of the wines are bottled unfiltered. the result are wines carrying katrin's own handwriting. 2015 katrin was honored by continental europe's most important wine magazine vinum for the „best riesling of a female producer“ for her kalmit -kapellenstück- riesling 2014. 2018 she was one of three international nominees for „der feinschmecker wine-awards 2018 newcomer of the year“ award.
