Wesepo Waste Management

WeSEPO is a social enterprise established in Zambia in 2021 with the mission of maximizing the recovery of recyclable materials while empowering women, youth and people from disadvantaged backgrounds. The aim is to become the bridge between waste generators and recycling companies. Since its conceptions WeSEPO managed to establish itself in 5 shopping malls, 3 schools and 2 restaurants and to open its own sorting and baling centre in N'gombe compound in Lusaka. Operations consist in the recovery, sorting, baling and selling of all recyclable materials, in the progressive introduction of segregation at source and in the delivery of training to selected private and public institutions. Zambia is entirely new to segregation at source and waste mostly gets dumped and burnt in the landfill or in people's backyards. WeSEPO's innovative approach is aimed at implementing segregation at source in public places and, eventually, in people's houses through the distribution of recycling bins, where possible, and door to door collection. Additional future plans involve the setup of strategically located public collection centres and the organisation of cleaning and sensitization activities as well as the expansion of operations towards composting and glass recycling.
