White Mess
Alice Canton is an award-winning independent performer and theatre-artist. Her collective practice, White_mess, is an open structure concerned with developing robust performance practice to create distinct, unfamiliar, live encounters for audiences. Original works include: THRIFTSHOP (New Zealand Improv Festival 2013), Do Not Touch The Exhibition (The Court Theatre 2014), and Dance Like Everybody’s Watching (Auckland Theatre Company 2017), as well as award-winning works ORANGUTAN (2015) and OTHER [chinese](2017). Her most recent work, Children Talk About, premiered in the 2018 Auckland Arts Festival Whānui Program. Recent awards and grants include: Auckland Theatre Awards, Excellence Award for Overall Production & Hackman Cup for Most Original Production (2017); Massey University Theatre Lab: Artist-in-Residence (2017); Asia New Zealand Foundation: Performing Arts Tour (2016); Basement Theatre: Schools' Programme Regional Tour (2016); Auckland Theatre Awards: Best Show by an Emerging Artist (2015); Movement Art Practice, Research Series Artist-in-Residence (2015); Asia New Zealand Foundation Arts Grant (2011).
