Wicklow Sudbury School

Wicklow Sudbury School is Ireland's first democratic school for self-directed learning. Students at our school are free to determine their own learning path and structure their days in whatever way works for them, with the freedom to play and to fully immerse themselves in their passions and interests. At Wicklow Sudbury School, we recognise the importance of mental and emotional well-being, and our community has built a culture of respect and restorative conflict resolution. Our students develop intrinsic motivation and learn to live their own independent lives based on their individual goals and aspirations. Students' ages range from 6 to 16 years old. All students and staff have an equal vote, and everyone is entitled to have a say on all decisions and rule making. Our school is inspired by the work of generations of educators and educational psychologists and by dozens of alternative schools, which have proven their value in helping children grow up happily and stay in touch with what moves and motivates them.
