Wikimedia User Group Nigeria

Wikimedia User Group Nigeria is the local Wikimedia affiliate covering Nigeria. We support volunteer editors of, and contributors to, Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects such as Commons, Wikidata, Wikivoyage, which are independently run by the Wikimedia Foundation. What we do: The WUGN hosts outreach events, such as edit-a-thons and training sessions, around the country where experienced editors and newcomers can contribute to the Wikimedia projects together. We also work with institutions to improve the quality of content on Wikipedia. Learn about some of our initiatives:* Gender gap advocacy - we run various initiatives to promote content relating to women on Wikimedia projects. These include visibility projects, media coverage, etc.*Education - we run fan clubs at different higher institutions. These fan clubs can be found in the following institutions: University of Ilorin, University of Ibadan, Lagos State University, Kwara State University, Nigerian Institute of Journalism. We also have hubs in different parts of Nigeria.*Cultural partnerships (GLAM partnerships) – We partner with cultural institutions up and down the country to help them share the information they hold on Wikipedia and its sister sites *Expert outreach – We work with scholars and academics, involving them in contributing their knowledge to Wikimedia projects *Training and edit-a-thons – We run numerous training events to help people learn how to contribute to Wikipedia and its sister projects
