Without Borders Sri Lanka

Without Borders' aims to provide grass rooted, community driven solutions to a plethora of issues faced by diverse communities in Sri Lanka. Our pilot project is currently underway in Deraniyagala (a village near Awissawella) with 4 initiatives to cater to the major issues faced by the local communities. Our "Learning Facility" initiative aims to equip the youth with the necessary knowledge, skills and confidence in realising their full potential. This will be done via, 1. Interactive and activity based English lessons – with the core aim of equipping students with the confidence to speak and present in addition to their written work. Motivational sessions and capacity building workshops - a target of one per month. Train individuals from the area as English Teachers who will subsequently be employed at the facility itself, thus creating a sustainable solution as well as a source of employment. The "Innovation Lab" looks at training the community with the technical know how in IT and provide them with access to information. Our "Social Enterprise" will focus on developing sustainable business models by empowering the local women with much needed entrepreneurial skills and expertise. This enterprise scheme will provide the technical assistance, skills and start-up capital for the women of the area to help them build their own home industries. The "Opportunity Bank" will look at connecting the youth with the job market and enable them to be better competitive in the corporate world. You can be a part of our cause by joining as a volunteer.
