Wkv Group

The WKV Group was established through the creation and consolidation of several companies many years ago. The acronym "WKV" represents "Wimalasurendra, Kehelgamu Oya, Viduliya," honoring D.J. Wimalasurendra, widely regarded as the "Father of Hydropower" in Sri Lanka. This name reflects Mr. Wimalasurendra's groundbreaking proposal in 1918 to harness the water resources of the Maskeli Oya and Kehelgamu Oya rivers to generate 114.5 MW of electricity, known as "Viduliya" in Sinhala. In 1950, he successfully completed the "Laxapana Hydro Power Scheme", which paved the way for numerous hydropower projects, ultimately leading Sri Lanka to achieve electricity self-sufficiency and bolstering its economy. We are an establishment that cares for our people, our communities and our planet while pursuing our business goals, and we believe in the pursuing the benefit of our shareholders as well as all our stakeholders contemporaneously. Our unwavering focus on performance and to minimize our carbon footprint has enhanced our ability to transmit over 121 GWh of electricity to the Ceylon Electricity Board annually. This is equivalent to reducing more than metric tons of CO2 emissions annually while also enabling us to be more cost effective. The WKV Group is committed to optimal utilization of abundant renewable energy sources to create environment-friendly electricity and increase the overall contribution of renewable energy to Sri Lanka's total energy generation capacity.
