We help real people and their families (either chosen or blood relatives) who have been injured while working, are concerned about what will happen in the event of death/disability in the future, or are disabled and need help obtaining Social Security benefits. Depending on their needs, we- Work to get the benefits they deserve under the Pennsylvania Workers' Comp Act for disabling work injuries - Apply or appeal to obtain Social Security benefits (SSD/SSDI)- Use legal documents such as wills, trusts, medical/health authorizations, and powers of attorney to protect their wishes regarding medical decisions, money, and property and that someone they trust can speak for them if they become disabled or pass away - Protect their wishes and avoid unnecessary litigation between their loved ones (or not-so-loved ones) in the future through careful planning and thoughtfully drafted legal documents - Find and coordinate with services/benefits for veterans, disabled workers, women, people of color who are unable to continue in their current career but cannot find jobs that will accommodate their physical and/or mental needs, including career planning and providing medical/vocational/financial information to PA CareerLink, Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, and various Small Business Administration programs - Prepare the Petition for Name Change and supporting documents and attend the hearing to support trans individuals in legally correcting their name/gender in Pennsylvania (form available for free by request at http://workersandwills.com)- Otherwise serve the community as a whole.
