Workplace Learning Advocates

Workbase Training and The Johnston Partnership are behind Workplace Learning Advocates, an approach that has been successfully improving workplace learning since 2004. We believe that informal learning at work is often a gateway to formal learning, and as a result will lead to a more skilled workforce. Workplace Learning Advocates (WLAs) support informal learning in the workplace. The WLA approach is all about helping individual organisations or groups of businesses to set up learning either through learning clubs, social clubs or other means to suit individual companies and identify Workplace Learning Advocates. This is an initiative for employees, led by employees, offering learning opportunities at times decided by and to suit employees. Workplace Learning Advocates is using the experiences of unionlearn (the TUC’s learning and skills organisation) ULRs and Community Learning Champions (CLCs) to help develop an offer that meets the needs of employers in non-unionised settings. Workplace Learning Advocates have been working successfully in Lincolnshire, Rutland and the North West. We are now expanding into the other English regions with an emphasis on working in London, East Midlands and the North East.
